Coaching Females: Princess or Athlete? is aimed at coaches with an interest in expanding their knowledge on the social issues impacting female participation and how to tackle this within their coaching.
By the end of this unit, you will;
- Understand the participation challenge relating to girls in tennis, and sport more generally.
- Understand the social and environmental pressures on girls both outside and inside sport and how they may impact our coaching.
- Learn about girls’ psychological needs and be able to design tennis drills and activities to meet them.
- Learn about different ways to introduce competition which align to the needs of girls.
This course is ideal to complement the 'Coaching Female Players: From Physique to Technique' face to face workshop which covers the technical and physical elements of female tennis.
This online course examines the psychological and social (psychosocial) factors influencing girls participation, and also covers practical ways that a coach can positively impact confidence and competence to better attract and retain females in the sport.
Topics covered in the course will include the negative impact of gender stereotyping in tennis, effective communication techniques, maximising sessions with a process based approach, and how to successfully approach competition.
