History: Australia is the second most successful Davis Cup team in history - with the U.S.A currently the only ones ranked above them. Australia has won the title an impressive 28 times with their last victory coming in 2003.

2022 performance: Having qualified for the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga last November, Australia bypassed the Netherlands and Croatia to reach the final before they missed out on the silverware to Canada, 2-0.

Journey to the finals: As runners-up in 2022, Australia received automatic qualification to the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage this September.

Players to watch: Alex de Minaur will spearhead the Australian side during their upcoming Davis Cup campaign. The Aussie world No.12 has so far embarked on one of the most impressive seasons of his career, having picked up his first ATP 500 title in Acapulco, where he ousted Tommy Paul to lift the trophy, as well as reaching an additional three finals, including the cinch Championships at the Queen’s Club.

Joining him in the Australian team is doubles specialist and doubles world No.8 Matthew Ebden. The 25-year-old won his maiden Grand Slam title in 2022 when he teamed up with compatriot Max Purcell – who was also selected to represent Australia this year - and will undoubtably bring his experience to their clash against the Brits fresh off the back of a US Open final last week.

France

History: Since making their maiden Davis Cup appearance in 1904, France have found themselves joint third on the all-time list of tournament champions, having claimed victory 10 times with their most recent triumph coming in 2017. The nation has also finished runners-up on nine occasions.

2022 performance: Having lost out to Germany and Australia in the opening ties of the Group Stages last year, the French team missed out on a spot in the Finals.

Journey to the finals: In the qualifiers, France came out top in a hard-fought tie against Hungary which saw them eventually prevail 3-2, with Ugo Humbert securing their spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marton Fucsovics.

Players to watch: A youngster who is currently enjoying a breakthrough season – Arthur Fils has already recorded wins against some of the world’s best players, including Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner. One of the most exciting prospects coming through on the ATP tour, the 19-year-old lifted his first tour-level title in May when he took down Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 7-5 to lift the trophy in Lyon, and will be fired up to rock the boat in Manchester.

However, it’s the French doubles stars who could pose the biggest threat with two world-class players in Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicolas Mahut joining the line-up. Roger-Vasselin has already clinched three titles this year, including a Masters 1000 title in Miami and also tasted title success with five-time Grand Slam champion Mahut in Florence. With the pair set to join forces for the ties at the AO Arena in Manchester, the Brits will have to bring their best game against the French duo.

Switzerland

History: Switzerland first competed in the Davis Cup in 1923 but had to wait 91 years before being crowned champions. Their first and only victory came in 2014 when Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka guided their nation to a 3-1 victory over France.

2022 performance: 2022 saw Switzerland compete in World Group I, where they recorded two wins against Lebanon and Ecuador.

Journey to the finals: The Swiss team travelled to Germany for their 2023 Davis Cup Qualifying tie where they beat the hosts – who were ranked 34 places above them at the time – in a 3-2 victory.

Players to watch: Leading the line for the Swiss team, Wawrinka is set to contest in his 26^th Davis Cup tie and is a long-standing addition to his nation’s side. The 38-year-old helped guide his country to their first Davis Cup Finals Group Stage since 2015 during their qualifying tie against Germany – winning two out of the three matches he played. Being one of the most experienced Davis Cup players, Wawrinka will be eager to lead his team to victory once again.

Meanwhile, Marc-Andrea Huesler enters as Switzerland’s second most experienced Davis Cup player having played in seven previous ties for his country – competing in both singles and doubles rubbers.
