Get to know Jodie Burrage
About
Since making her WTA Tour main-draw debut in singles in 2021, Jodie Burrage has gone from strength to strength - finishing runner-up at the Ilkley Trophy and making it to the round of 16 at the Eastbourne International in 2022.
Burrage is supported by the LTA Pro Scholarship Programme the highest level of support offered to developing players aged between 16 and 24 with the best chance of reaching the ATP/WTA top 100 singles.

- Family: Chris and Yvonne Burrage, 3 brothers - Zach oldest (22), Ben (19), Seb (16). Mum used to play and that’s how she got into tennis. The whole family can play and can be very competitive and ended up in a few fights when younger.
- Likes: Big golf fan – started playing when out injured in 2019 and is planning to get a handicap soon.

Burrage became LTA Colour Holder No.324 when she stepped on court to represent Great Britain in their Billie Jean King Cup Play-Off tie against Sweden. However, Burrage unfortunately missed out in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat to Kajsa Rinaldo Persson.
October
Burrage was selected to represent Great Britain for their Billie Jean King Cup Play-Off tie against Sweden in November - should she play, she will be awarded her LTA Colour Holder Status.
Burrage then went on to team up with Switzerland's Jill Teichmann for the doubles event at the Transylvania Open, where Burrage picked up a career-first WTA doubles title. Teaming up for the first time, the pair sailed through to the final where they wrapped up the silverware with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Leolia Jeanjean and Valeriya Strakhova.
August
The British No.2 marked her US Open debut with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anna Blinkova but lost out to world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 6-2 in round two.
Burrage joined forced with Australia's Olivia Gadecki to lift a career-first WTA doubles title at the Golden Gate Open at Stanford.
The British, Australian pair raced to the final where they faced Hailey Baptiste and Claire Liu - eventually prevailing in the deciding match tie-break 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 10-8 to secure the crown.
July
The 24-year-old claimed her first Grand Slam win at Wimbledon against American Caty McNally 6-1, 6-3, but exited the tournament following her 6-0, 6-2 defeat to the world No.10, Daria Kasatkina.
June
Burrage had the best week of her career so far at the Rothesay Open Nottingham - finishing runner-up to fellow Brit Katie Boulter.
She made her way to her first WTA quarter-final, semi-final and final with victories against world No.21 Magda Linette and top 100 stars Alize Cornet and Magdalena Frech.
Burrage faced consecutive transatlantic opponents at the Rothesay International Eastbourne, defeating America’s Lauren Davis 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 before losing out to the world No.7, Coco Gauff.
March
Burrage breezed through the opening two rounds at the W60 Croissy-Beaubourg event before facing Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in a bid for the title. In the final, Burrage overcame the Italian 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 to claim the fifth ITF singles title of her career and take her to a new career-high ranking of world No.109.
She also joined forces with Tunisia’s Berfu Cengiz for the doubles event, where the pair finished runners-up to Belgian duo Greet Minnent and Yanina Wickmayer.
January
Burrage started her 2023 off with a lengthy run to the final of the W60 Canberra event, where she lost out to fellow Brit, Katie Boulter 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Burrage lost out on a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open after a third round defeat in the qualifiers against Selena Janicijevic.
October
Burrage advanced to her sixth ITF World Tennis Tour semi-final of the season at the W60 Glasgow event where she faced compatriot, and eventual champion, Lily Miyazaki. Burrage fell short of the final after losing 6-3, 7-6(4).
August
Burrage finished runner-up for a third time this season after losing to fellow Brit and eighth seed, Katie Swan, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 at the W60 Lexington tournament held in the USA.
July
Having received a wild card into Wimbledon, Burrage lost to Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.
June
Burrage had a successful start to the grass court season after advancing to the semi-finals of the Surbiton Trophy, but her pursuit for a place in the finals came to an end after losing 6-3, 6-4 to Alison Van Uytvanck.
The 23-year-old got a career best result at the W100 event at the Ilkley Trophy, dazzling past Daria Snigur and Sonay Kartal on her way to the final. There she met Hungary's Dalma Galfi, who won the match despite a late Burrage comeback, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Burrage's grass court form continued in Eastbourne, where she claimed back-to back career best wins. She defeated Croatia's Petra Martic before beating world No.5 Paula Badosa in one of the upsets of the summer but lost out to Nottingham and Birmingham champion Beatriz Haddad Mai in the quarter-finals.
March
Burrage started the month with her third successive ITF Tour quarter-final at the W25 Joue les Tours, where she lost to Nasatasja Mariana Schunk 6-2, 6-4.
February
Back on home soil, Burrage reached the quarter-finals of the W25 Edgbaston, losing to Magali Kempen 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, before moving on to the W25 Glasgow. In Scotland she battled her way to the semi-finals, where she lost out to eventual champion Sonay Kartal 6-3, 6-4.
January
Started the season by reaching the quarter-finals of the W60+H Traralgon singles competition. Burrage then went on to make her Australian Open debut where she lost in the first round of qualifying to Australian Seone Mendez 5-7, 6-1, 6-
Won her fourth ITF title at a $25k tournament in Dubai in April Was selected to represent Great Britain in a Billie Jean King Cup Play-Off tie against Mexico at the National Tennis Centre in the same month. In May she won the W25 Salinas doubles event with Paige Hourigan. Lost first round at Roland Garros qualifying and at the first round at Wimbledon. She reached her second singles final of the season at the W25 Les Contamines-Montjoie, finishing runner-up.
Runner-up at an ITF $15k event at Monastir in Tunisia in January and was a semi-finalist at an ITF $25k in Thailand in February. Caught the eye in a number of behind closed doors events at the NTC post lockdown, reaching the final of the first British Tour Premier Event, and beating Johanna Konta in the second Battle of the Brits Team Tennis event. She also reached the final of the Progress Tour Women’s Championships, where she eventually lost out to Katie Boulter and reached the semi-finals of a ITF $25k event in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin in October.
